The Antidote for Anxiety

Pastor Joe DuCharme teaches that true peace comes when believers pursue unity, choose joy, pray with thanksgiving, and fix their minds on God.

Sermon Notes

Philippians 4:1–9

“Rejoice in the Lord always.”

Although culture calls this “the most wonderful time of the year,” research shows it’s often one of the most stressful. While the world tells us to look inward and empty the mind for peace, Philippians 4 calls us to look upward, filling our minds with truth and fixing our eyes on God.

Right relationships (Philippians 4:1–3)
Unity matters. Paul urges two believers to reconcile because division harms the church and weakens its witness.

Right attitude (Philippians 4:4–5)
“Rejoice in the Lord always.” Joy is a choice rooted in Christ, not circumstances. Happiness changes; joy is anchored in the unchanging character of God.

Right response to anxiety (Philippians 4:6–7)
Instead of worrying, believers are called to bring everything to God in prayer with thanksgiving. Focusing on who God is shifts our perspective and brings peace that guards our hearts and minds.

Practical Takeaway

In an anxiety-stricken world, Scripture shows how to have peace: pursue unity, choose joy, pray continually, and fix your mind on God. The “ACTS” model helps believers pray with the right focus:

    • Adoration – praise God for who He is
    • Confession – acknowledge sin
    • Thanksgiving – express gratitude
    • Supplication – bring requests

The road to glory runs through death

In John 12, the arrival of the Greeks signals that Jesus’ mission is extending to all nations and that the time has come for His death and glorification. Jesus teaches that, like a seed that must die to produce fruit, His sacrifice on the cross will bring salvation and spiritual life to all who call …
