The 7 Statements of Jesus on The Cross

Jesus willingly suffered and died to forgive sin, offer salvation, and restore relationship with God. Each statement shows that Jesus is fully God and fully man, revealing His love, mercy, and completed work.

The Seven Statements

  1. Father, Forgive Them (Luke 23:34)
    Jesus prays for His enemies. He shows mercy in suffering.
  2. Today You Will Be with Me in Paradise (Luke 23:43)
    Jesus promises salvation to the repentant thief. Salvation is by grace through faith alone.
  3. Behold Your Son / Your Mother (John 19:26–27)
    Jesus cares for His mother, showing the importance of family, and establishes the model of a spiritual family for the church.
  4. My God, My God, Why Have You Forsaken Me? (Matthew 27:46)
    Jesus experiences separation from the Father, bearing the weight of our sin.
  5. I Thirst (John 19:28)
    Jesus fulfills Scripture and expresses physical suffering.
  6. It Is Finished (John 19:30)
    The work of salvation is complete; the debt of sin is paid in full.
  7. Father, Into Your Hands I Commit My Spirit (Luke 23:46)
    Jesus entrusts Himself to the Father. He willingly gives up His life.
