Sermon Notes

Revelation 2:12-17

Jesus commends the church in Pergamum for remaining faithful in a culture filled with idolatry and persecution, but rebukes them for tolerating compromise and false teaching within the church. Believers are called to hold fast to Christ and His Word, repent of compromise, and trust in the eternal rewards promised to those who overcome.

Three Practical Takeaways

  • Hold fast to Jesus and His Word. In a culture full of sinful voices and temptations, Scripture is our source of truth, strength, and stability.
  • Reject compromise before it takes root. Small compromises with sin or false teaching can gradually pull us away from wholehearted devotion to Christ, so we must be quick to repent.
  • Be faithful regardless of the cost. Like Antipas, stand firm in your faith, remembering that Christ sees your faithfulness and has promised an eternal reward to those who persevere.

Forensic Profile of a False Teacher

In this message we are reminded that while false teaching will be judged by God, Christians must remain rooted in God’s Word, exercise discernment, and trust in Jesus Christ, the Good Shepherd who alone gives life and keeps His people secure.
