Sermon Notes

Psalm 91:1-16

The Secret Place of the Most High (Psalm 91:1–2)
Pastor Joe explains that the secret place refers to a life of closeness with God where we learn to trust Him privately so we can stand faithfully in public. Those who abide under His shadow draw near enough to experience His comfort, strength, and steady protection.

Refuge and Fortress (Psalm 91:2–4)
God is both a refuge for immediate trouble and a fortress for long seasons of hardship. Pastor Joe notes that God shields believers from spiritual traps, lies, and dangers, even though life still brings sickness, pressure, and uncertainty.

Freedom from Fear (Psalm 91:5–10)
The psalm names terrors, arrows, pestilence, and destruction yet repeatedly says we do not have to fear. Pastor Joe reminds the church that while we face real threats, nothing can touch our eternal life in Christ and even death becomes a doorway to the presence of Jesus.

Abiding in Christ the True Secret Place (Psalm 91:11–16)
Jesus resisted Satan’s misuse of this psalm and fulfilled its promise by conquering the serpent. Pastor Joe shows that abiding in Christ through obedience and the Word is where we receive God’s promises of guidance, presence, deliverance, and salvation.

Practical Takeaways:

  • Draw near to God daily through prayer and His Word.

  • Trust Him as your refuge when fear, pressure, or temptation arise.

  • Remember that trials may harm your body but cannot touch your eternity.

  • Use Scripture in context to resist lies and confusion.

  • Abide in Jesus as your secret place where peace and joy grow.
