Sermon Notes

Psalm 24:1-10

The Reign of the King of Glory (Psalm 24:1–2)
Pastor Joe opens by showing that the earth belongs entirely to the Lord because He created and sustains all things. God’s sovereignty extends over every realm of human life, from science to governments to personal circumstance. Though the world is broken by sin, the King still rules with goodness and purpose, working even through tragedy and injustice to accomplish His plans for His people.

Who Can Approach the Holy King (Psalm 24:3–6)
The psalm asks who can stand in God’s holy place and answers with a standard no human can meet: clean hands, a pure heart, and complete truthfulness. Pastor Joe shows how every biblical hero fails this test, leaving only Jesus as the One who climbed the unscalable mountain of God’s holiness. Christ alone lived with perfect obedience, ascended the hill of Calvary, and opened the way for sinners to receive righteousness and blessing through His grace.

The King’s Victory and Triumphal Entrance (Psalm 24:7–10)
Pastor Joe connects the psalm to Jesus entering Jerusalem, conquering death, and ascending into heaven as the risen King. The ancient gates lift in honor as He returns victorious, the Lord strong and mighty in battle. The psalm becomes a picture of Christ’s exaltation and a call for every believer to open the gates of the heart, surrender the throne to Him, and welcome the King of Glory personally and joyfully.

Practical Takeaways:

  • Trust God’s sovereignty over every part of your life.

  • Remember that moral effort alone cannot make you holy.

  • Look to Jesus as the only One who ascended the hill of the Lord for you.

  • Open your heart fully to the King of Glory and surrender the throne to Him.

  • Seek the face of God with the same hunger and desperation seen in Scripture.

The road to glory runs through death

In John 12, the arrival of the Greeks signals that Jesus’ mission is extending to all nations and that the time has come for His death and glorification. Jesus teaches that, like a seed that must die to produce fruit, His sacrifice on the cross will bring salvation and spiritual life to all who call …
