Exodus 34:4–8

God Reveals Who He Truly Is
Pastor Joe explains that people often invent their own idea of God, but Exodus 34 gives us God’s own description of Himself. After Israel’s failure with the golden calf, God invites Moses back up the mountain, showing that He is a God of second chances. When Moses asks to see God’s glory, God reveals His goodness and proclaims His name, showing that His character is not hidden or mysterious but meant to be known.

Compassionate, Gracious, Patient, and Loving
God tells Moses that He is compassionate like a parent toward a helpless child, gracious in giving what we do not deserve, slow to anger with a long fuse, and abounding in faithful love. His kindness and loyal love stack upon themselves and continue for generations. He is also faithful to His promises and true in all He says.

Forgiving Yet Just
God says He forgives wickedness, rebellion, and sin, yet He also declares that He will not leave the guilty unpunished. Pastor Joe shows that this tension is resolved at the cross where Jesus takes the punishment we deserved so that God can forgive without compromising justice. Forgiveness is offered to those who repent and turn to Him in faith.

Responding in Worship
When Moses sees who God truly is, he immediately bows down in worship. Pastor Joe reminds us that worship is not only singing but a life of obedience, generosity, repentance, and devotion. Encountering God should lead us to humble worship, especially as we remember Christ’s sacrifice in communion.

The road to glory runs through death

In John 12, the arrival of the Greeks signals that Jesus’ mission is extending to all nations and that the time has come for His death and glorification. Jesus teaches that, like a seed that must die to produce fruit, His sacrifice on the cross will bring salvation and spiritual life to all who call …
