Sermon Notes

Philippians 3:12-21

Running the Race (Philippians 3:12)
Paul admits he has not arrived. The Christian life is a race that begins the moment we trust Christ. Salvation is secure, but growth requires effort.

Pressing On (Philippians 3:13–14)
Paul forgets what is behind and strains toward what is ahead. Believers must let go of past failures and successes in order to pursue Christ with focus.

The Call to Maturity (Philippians 3:15–16)
Mature Christians recognize the need to keep growing. God patiently shapes believers as they continue walking in obedience.

Examples to Follow and Avoid (Philippians 3:17–19)
Paul urges believers to imitate godly examples and warns about those who live for earthly desires. Their end is destruction, and this moves Paul to tears.

Our True Citizenship (Philippians 3:20–21)
Christians belong to heaven. We wait eagerly for Jesus who will return and transform our bodies to be like his glorious body.

Practical Takeaways

  • Run your Christian race with intention and focus.

  • Release the past so it does not hinder present obedience.

  • Follow mature believers who walk closely with Christ.

  • Keep your mind on eternal things, not earthly desires.

  • Live as a citizen of heaven who waits eagerly for Christ’s return.
